John 1:6-8 Voices In The Desert

September 3, 2017 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: The Gospel of John, Life In God

Topic: Worship, Evangelism, Church Growth, Outreach Scripture: John 1:6–8

Who was John the Baptist? How much do you know about him?

John the Baptist is a much-overlooked individual in the Bible. He was the last of the Old Testament prophets. His ministry was transitional by nature. He was the forerunner of Christ, therefore, his ministry decreased in influence as Jesus’ public ministry increased. These very things seem to make us overlook John and look straight to Jesus. I’m sure John the Baptist wouldn’t have it any other way.

There is a sense in which we are all called to do the work of John the Baptist. We are all called to be a ‘forerunner’ before Christ in people’s lives. We are all called to be voices crying out in the wilderness of a lost world. We are all to allow ourselves to decrease so that Christ Jesus might increase in the lives of others.

Consider with me, today, this great man - John the Baptist.
